Teen Wolf Review: Condition Terminal (Season 5 Episode 4)

Reviews, Teen Wolf

Wow, Teen Wolf. I love you too.

This week’s episode of Teen Wolf entitled “Condition Terminal” helps give us some answers, but it also gives us more questions — and I’ve realized that I actually still have no idea what’s happening.

The gang learns that someone is making crossbreed… creatures. And Malia finds a name for that someone: The Doctors. We also see the origins of Lydia’s combat fighting skills! But the questions? What traumatic experience did Theo go through to become a psychopath? Did Papa Stilinski and Mama Martin go on another date? What exactly is Parrish? And dear god, is Stiles okay?

So far, this whole season of Teen Wolf has me on the fence. It seems to be trying really hard to set a dark tone, but is falling short. I’m not sure why, either. But remember that eerie feeling when Lydia would stare at a wall for hours while music played in the background on a record player? Something about this whole season seems off.

It could be the whole flash forward plot. Maybe we’re supposed to be this confused and frustrated, because it’ll pay off. I have full faith that it will. But more likely, it could be the new members of the cast. I love Dylan and Cody, but I feel like right now, they don’t mesh with the group as much as they should.

Obviously, Hoechlin’s absence leaves a hole in my heart every week.

This episode starts off right where the last one ended. Scott and Stiles run into the police station and they see what Tracy did. There were so many reasons I love this shot. One: because of the pure fear in Stiles’ eyes when he sees Lydia. Two: how much empathy I feel for Malia. Because even though no one comes and out and says they don’t believe her about the ‘three men’, there is a sense of apprehension.

And three: is Lydia’s attempt at a smile and nod at Stiles, telling him to go with Scott. I’m not sure if the writers do this purpose, or if fan girls like me read into it too much, but I couldn’t help but smile a bit.

Another part of this episode is the completely badass fight sequence between Liam, Scott, and Kira against the Lucas. The choreography is great, and we get to see flamin’ Kira again!

It’s been hinted at that Kira and Scott will have some trouble this season, and tonight, we see the start of that. When they had taken down Lucas, she warped into the Kitsune and almost stabbed him. She seems to be a fit of rage, blind — even when Scott calls out to her. I hope these two make it out okay in the end. Especially after Scott’s casual “God, I love you.” It felt so true to the character and completely organic. So I’m rooting for them!

It’s moments like this that make me believe that the writer’s know what they’re doing. That all of this confusion is just part of the build up, and when all our questions are answered, I’ll wish they weren’t, as I try not to cry too loudly.

And that is both satisfying and absolutely terrifying!
