Jane the Virgin Snags a Golden Globe

Jane the Virgin, News

If you tuned in to watch the Golden Globes this weekend, then you might have noticed that Gina Rodriguez snagged the first ever nomination and win for The CW. These prestigious awards have pretty consistently snubbed the young adult network and all of their shows, but this year, Jane The Virgin received two nominations and one win!

Best Actress in a TV Comedy went to Gina Rodriguez for her work on Jane, and she had some very inspiring words to share when she accepted the award.

“This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to be seen as heroes.”

Critics have not only raved about the show as a comedy, a telenovela, and just damn good TV, but because of its diversity. The cast is predominantly Hispanic, and in an industry that seems determined to white wash the hell out of its casts, Jane the Virgin is a refreshing change of pace.

This award came just hours after the network picked up Jane The Virgin, for a second season. It’s almost like they knew she was a winner already!

Jane the Virgin airs Mondays at 9/8c on the CW.
