4 Reasons to Watch The IT Crowd, Like Now

Lists

Often, when you think of British television shows, you think of Doctor Who. You think of this crazy, lanky man traveling all over the world with his trusty companion.

If that’s not the first thing you think about, then it must be Sherlock. Another tall and lanky beauty who solves crimes with his BFF. Oh, and if it’s not those two shows, then it’s most certainly Downton Abbey. A show about the high life of a family striving through life’s struggles.

No one thinks of The IT Crowd, but they should.

The IT Crowd is a British comedy that ran for four seasons beginning in 2006. It’s about three people working in the dark, dank, broken basement of the IT department at Reynholm Industries. There’s Jen (Katherine Parkinson, Humans), the saucy red-headed head of department, who lies, lies, lies. There’s Roy, the curly haired Irishman who always answers IT questions with, “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” And there’s Moss, a socially awkward tech genius with a bitching afro to match.

Below are the four reasons why everyone should give this nerdy comedy a watch.

1. The Gifs

It’s 2 in the morning, someone’s just posted the most hilarious (or painful) post you’ve ever read, and you need a gif. A perfect gif to express the amount of feelings you’re experiencing at the moment. If you watch The IT Crowd, then you’ll be set for life. With the gifs from the show you could express your shock and disgust at that OTP pairing you never wanted.

Your gleeful pterodactyl screeching in the middle of the night for the bad guy being taken down.

And you ‘want to punch the TV/computer’ because you can’t believe this happened disbelief.

It’s all here.

2) The Bromance

Moss and Roy, our IT nerds, are the absolute definition of bromance. They share tender moments together that push them past work associates and into friends, even brothers. No one understands them in the entire building, not the women, not the men, hell, not even Jen. But somehow they get each other. When Roy builds a potato display of a water parks performance, Moss understands. And when Moss decides that the best way to blend into the background to avoid the police is to kiss your straight best friend, Roy understands.

3) The Head of the Department: Jen Barber

After lying to get into her position as the head of the IT department, Jen Barber took her job like a fish that died after five minutes out of water. She is terrible at her job. She barely knows anything about the internet. Correction: she knows nothing about the internet.

She doesn’t even know what IT stands for! Despite that, this new job has afforded her two best friends who she helps guide through the normal nuisances of life. Be it dating, social media, or finding out that your employee is stuck under a desk and if discovered he will be accused of peeping on girls, Jen is the head of department you need!

4) The Twists and Turns in the Story line

The IT Crowd has this unique ability to tackle whatever subject it damn well pleases. One example? The show can conquer the woes of a woman’s menstrual cycle and how one thing can tip us over from a beautiful gentle flower to a beautiful rage flower.

The more dramatic/hilarious/quirky the situation, the better. It’s a fun show and an easy watch that you’ll become addicted to. Give The IT Crowd a chance and you’ll find yourself saying…

…in no time.

The IT Crowd is available for streaming on Hulu and Amazon.

Lyra is a TV and movie enthusiast. It all started on a dark night when she turned on Fox and fell in love with the X-Files. It was all history after that as she got lost in Doctor Who, The Marvel Verse and most recently everything DC. Her love for Doctor Who lead her to study abroad, where she fell into live-tweeting and the lovely explosion of fandom life that Tumblr is. Her main love for the summer (with a mega re-watch happening) is Arrow. When she isn’t sharing her love for TV and movies she’s writing fan-fiction, taking care of her family, and puttering around her kitchen.
