Criminal Premiere Date and Teaser Trailer Released by Prime Video

Get ready to step into an interconnected universe of crime stories with Criminal.

The new series, based on the graphic novel series of the same name created by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, debuts on Prime Video in January 2027.

All four episodes of Criminal Part One “Coward” premieres on Wednesday, January 13, followed by the four-episode Criminal Part Two “Lawless” on Wednesday, January.

The streamer ordered Criminal to series in January 2024. At that time, Prime Video announced that both Brubaker and Phillips would be executive producers for the series. Brubaker, who penned the graphic novel, also wrote the show’s pilot script and served as the co-showrunner alongside Jordan Harper.

“Sean and I have been building this world in our books for over a decade, and now to be able to bring it to life for Amazon is just incredible. And to have Amazon support the project the way they have, and show so much faith in my and Jordan’s vision for the show is even more incredible,” Brubaker shared at that time.

Criminal‘s description reads as follows:

Criminal begins with the story of two friends, Leo Patterson and Ricky Lawless, one trying to fight his way out of the world of crime they were raised in, the other desperate to follow in the footsteps of his father, a legendary outlaw. And when Ricky’s older brother Tracy returns home from the Army, their tragic family history comes home with him. Drawn into their orbit are Greta, a sharp-tongued car thief from Leo’s past, and Mallory, Ricky’s girlfriend, who fears what he’ll do to get by. Gunfights, heists, and tragic romance are the order of the day, but will anyone make it out alive?

Prime Video also shared descriptions of the different parts. 

“Coward” description: Family secrets buried for decades are revealed as two criminals, Leo Patterson and his best friend Ricky Lawless, are haunted by a murder from their childhood and a heist that goes wrong, bringing them face-to-face with a past they can’t run from.

“Lawless” description: 20 years ago, Tracy Lawless chose the Army over prison and never looked back. But when his brother Ricky gets in too deep with the wrong people, Tracy must return to the life he fled, and face what it really means to be a Lawless.

Charlie Hunnam stars as Leo Patterson, with Gus Halper as Ricky, Luke Evans as Tracy, Adria Arjona as Greta, and Emilia Clarke as Mallory.  The show also stars Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison, John Hawkes, and Logan Browning.

The recurring and guest cast includes Michael Mando, Garrett Hedlund, Patrick J. Adams, Pat Healy, Taylor Selé, Aliyah Camacho, Marvin Jones III, Michael Xavier, Dominic Burgess, Chris Diamantopoulos, Lawrence Kao, Katie Stevens, John Pyper-Ferguson, Robert Lee Hart, Aina Brei’yon and Kyle Davis.

Criminal‘s executive producers include Philipp A. Barnett, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck, Jordan Harper, Sarah Carbiener, Dee Rees, and Halley Gross, along with co-executive producers Cortney Norris and Minhal Baig.

Amazon MGM Studios, Basement Gang, Inc., Big Indie Pictures, Inc., Gowanus Projections, Inc., and Legendary Television Productions, Inc. produce the show.
