The Night Manager Season 2 Reveals First Look at Tom Hiddleston’s Return as Jonathan Pine

Nearly a decade since the series premiere, Tom Hiddleston is back as Jonathan Pine, a former British intelligence operative, on The Night Manager Season 2. 

Vanity Fair exclusively unveiled the first-look photos from the show’s highly anticipated return. 

The Night Manager‘s six-episode first season, which was based on John le Carré’s 1993 novel, premiered in April 2016 and concluded in May 2016. BBC and Prime Video renewed the crime drama for a second season in April 2024. 

The six-episode second season picks up eight years after Season 1. Though based on characters created by le Carré, The Night Manager Season 2 is an original story that expands beyond the source material. The season, directed in full by Georgi Banks-Davies, was filmed in the UK, Spain, Colombia, and France. 

Hiddleston’s Jonathan Pine is living in London as Alex Goodwin — a low-level MI6 officer. “Then one night a chance sighting of an old Roper mercenary prompts a call to action and leads Pine to a violent encounter with a new player: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos,” per the season’s description. 

Diego Calva (Narcos: Mexico) stars opposite Hiddleston as Teddy. Pine also meets Roxana Bolaños, played by Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six), “who reluctantly helps him infiltrate Teddy’s Colombian arms operation.”

“Once in Colombia, Pine is plunged deep into a deadly plot involving arms and training of a guerrilla army. As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late.”

The Night Manager Season 2 also stars Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi) as Mayra, Paul Chahidi (The Serpent Queen) as Basil, and Hayley Squires (Adult Material) as Sally.

The season will also see stars from Season 1 reprise their roles, like Olivia Colman (The Crown) as Angela Burr, Alistair Petrie (Sex Education) as Sandy Langbourne, Douglas Hodge (Black Mirror) as Rex Mayhew, Michael Nardone (Rome) as Frisky, and Noah Jupe as Daniel Roper.

The series was created and executive-produced by David Farr. It was made by The Ink Factory in association with Character 7, Demarest Films, and 127 Wall, and in co-production with Spanish collaborator Nostromo Pictures. Character 7’s Stephen Garrett is the lead executive producer of the second season.

The Night Manager Season 2 is expected to premiere worldwide (excluding the UK) on Prime Video and in the UK on BBC and BBC iPlayer in 2025.
