Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Season 2 Episode 5 Review: A Pregnancy Test and an Old Man’s Gallbladder
Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Season 2 Episode 5, “A Pregnancy Test and an Old Man’s Gallbladder,” further ramps up the building tension in Georgie and Mandy’s relationship while simultaneously having one of the saddest moments for Connor thus far.
The episode primarily follows another instance of the titular couple having trust issues. This time, Georgie is worries about Mandy going on a work trip with her ex-boyfriend/boss Scott.
Last episode had Mandy confronting Georgie with suspicions of cheating, so it’s interesting to see the roles reversed. Where Mandy calmly asks Georgie for the truth, Georgie jumps to immediate conclusions.
While the circumstances are extremely different, it is a good showcase of the couple’s maturity gap.

The age gap between Georgie and Mandy has had a role in their relationship since Young Sheldon. Episodes like this one hammer home just how young Georgie is.
It’s understandable that Georgie is uncomfortable with his wife going on a work trip with an ex. His reaction, however, is less reasonable.
Georgie’s flaws as a husband make him more believable, but also reminds us of why they aren’t going to work out in the end.

Like previous episodes, the resolution is nowhere to be seen. Mandy goes from being mad at Georgie for confronting her boss to acting like she’s in the wrong for being upset about it.
While it’s frustrating, it doesn’t necessarily feel out of place. The show is building to a divorce, so all of these small problems going unsolved may be serving to increase the building tension.
Not to mention, two episodes in a row bringing up concerns of cheating, combining with Mandy’s interactions with Scott, might be alluding to some kind of affair. However, until we see the payoff, the way things just go back to normal with no explanation comes off as odd.

The B plot follows Jim and Audrey bickering over who should confront Connor about a negative pregnancy test found in his trash can. The responsibility falls to Audrey, and Connor lashes out in a bit of a shocking moment.
When Jim talks to him, Connor reveals that after taking the test, his girlfriend Chloe from Season 1 broke up with him. She is relieved not to be pregnant and even more relieved he won’t be the father of her child.
The reveal is a gut punch in an otherwise silly episode. Dougie Baldwin as Connor does an excellent job at not only depicting the sadness of being broken up with, but also the shame and embarrassment of the reason behind it.

Jim quietly comforts him before the scene abruptly ends, leaving you to sit with what just happened.
That is, until it cuts to Mandy on the job. It’s for them to end on a joke, but the abrupt tone shift is a bit jarring.
Much of the episode is more of the same regarding Georgie and Mandy’s relationship troubles, but watching their relationship develop and beginning to see the cracks form is interesting, and this episode is a great example of that.
Besides them, Connor’s B plot, despite having less emphasis put on it, is incredibly compelling, and the reveal is a heartbreaking one.
