Jay’s soul hangs in the balance on Ghosts Season 5 Episode 1, “Soul Custody,” as Elias returns to Woodstone determined to dig the chef’s grave before the day is out.
The Season 5 premiere rallies the ghosts against Elias in an attempt to save Jay as they scheme, plot, and fiddle to their hearts’ content alongside a rather stressed-out Sam.
Patience returns to offer her services in an epic showdown between the Puritan and Hetty’s demonic ex-husband.
When things don’t initially go well for Patience, Sas and Isaac attempt to help her through her identity crisis. At the same time, Thorfinn puts his word-of-the-day calendar to good use.
Finally, Pete and Alberta desire to tell the rest of the mansion about their couple status.
Conflict arises when they realize Jay’s potential death may put a damper on the announcement, and they should keep their secret a little longer. The decision is complicated when Pete’s previous rejection of Alberta becomes a hot topic among the ghosts.

Previously on Ghosts, Sam hosted a book launch party for her historical vampire novel at Woodstone so Isaac could be in attendance. Patience threatened the festivities when she showed up to banish the demonic presence from the mansion. That presence turned out to be Elias Woodstone, who returned to his former estate in his new role as a demon.
Hetty’s evil Rober Baron husband revealed he posed as Jay’s agent so Jay would unknowingly sign his soul over to the devil. The Season 4 finale ended on a cliffhanger as Elias declared Jay would be going to hell sooner rather than later before attempting to drop a chandelier on his head. Meanwhile, Pete broke off his relationship with Donna to seal his romantic feelings for Alberta with a kiss.
