Stranger Things 3 Trailer: 17 Reasons to Get Excited About the New Season
11. There’s a new villain to hate

We really don’t know anything about Mayor Kline yet but he definitely has Big Bad Guy Energy. Have you ever known a man with a pinky ring who wasn’t up to no good? I don’t think so.
12. The Upside Down is coming for Billy
Let’s all be honest with ourselves, Billy Hargrove might be a beefcake, but he’s also an incredibly racist and abusive representation of toxic masculinity and we’d all probably be better off without him.
It looks like the Upside Down might be turning this monster of a person into an actual monster. Billy is seen in the trailer with a mysterious growth on his arm that looks suspiciously otherworldly, and later we get a close up of an eye with the veins darkened and strained. Could Billy become possessed by the Upside Down?
13. Erica is joining the team
Nancy and Jonathan have been part of the show since day one, but last year we met Lucas’ little sister Erica. She was superb comic relief throughout the season, but this year it looks like she might be getting in on the action.
Do you think she genuinely wants to be a part of the team she was adamantly making fun of last year? Or do they need someone small enough to fit through those vents and Erica is the only little kid they know?
14. The soundtrack just keeps getting better
The Stranger Things soundtrack has always been filled with excellent 80’s nostalgia with just the right mix of fun and creepy, featuring songs such as Africa by Toto, Peter Gabriel’s cover of Heroes, and Olivia Newton John’s Twist of Fate. If this trailer is any indication Season 3 is going to continue that legacy.
The trailer opens with Motley Crew’s Home Sweet Home as Dustin returns from sleepaway camp to a surprise welcome party from all of his best friends. The rest of the trailer is set to the iconic strains of Baba O’Riley by The Who, declaring Hawkins our new favorite teenage wasteland.
These two songs give Stranger Things 3 a more high energy and hopeful vibe than the past two seasons, which have leaned into the shows more spooky aspects. What songs are you hoping to hear featured on Season 3?
15. Who the hell hurt Steve now?

Steve seemed to be doing pretty well this year with his new job and his fancy handshake with his new BFF Dustin, but then we saw this terrifying image of our best guy being pretty aggressively attacked. Not only is he bruised and bloodied, but someone is injecting him with something, and I highly doubt it’s anything good.
With Steve having become a huge fan favorite among the Stranger Things audience, this single shot might have caused more terror than the shots of the latest monster to crawl out of the shadow dimension.
16. The 4th of July Fun Fair

Stranger Things thrives in the best of childhood nostalgia. The first two seasons made good use of Halloween and Christmas, and Season 3 is tackling the most iconic American Summer holiday, the 4th of July. Not only is Hawkins getting it’s very own fireworks show, but the town’s creepily charming mayor has delivered a pretty deluxe looking carnival.
There are rides and lights, carnival foods and fireworks, funhouse mirror mazes and creepy mobster looking men with guns. Hawkins would have a terrorist crash the Fun Fair just when Hopper is trying to make the town feel safe enough to stay in. Can he catch a break? Can the whole gang catch a break? What’s your favorite thing about carnivals? Mine’s the funnel cake. Let me know yours in the comments below!
17. The party sticks together
During the first two installments of Stranger Things, one party member was always missing from the group for pretty much the whole season. On Season 1, Will was stuck in the Upside Down and on Season 2 Jane was on her own hero’s journey after Hopper kept her isolated from the group for her own safety.
This year the whole team is sticking together and no one is getting left behind. Jane and Will might have started this show as the most vulnerable members of the group, but they’ve each become more powerful than we could have imagined. These two will do whatever it takes to make sure their friends are safe and that none of them have to experience the horrifying loneliness of the Upside Down.
Friends don’t lie, and these friends are forever.
